Analysis of a gun battle between the Light Cruiser HMAS Sydney and the disguised German auxiliary raider HSK Kormoran in 1941, which resulted in the sinking of both ships. Discusses recent developments in archival research and scientific analysis, and addresses questions such as why the Australian cruiser and her entire crew were lost without trace, and the reason for the lack of communication following the battle. Includes references, a bibliography and an index. The author is a former naval lieutenant, and research officer to the Chief of Naval Staff.
